Book Proposal

The Political Philosophy of Henry George

Edited by Joseph Milne and Richard Bolton

in association with The Henry George Foundation

Contributions are invited for a book on Henry George which draws out the ethical, philosophical, religious, social and political implications of his work.

While George’s proposal for the reform of the tax system has been widely discussed, many other equally significant elements of his work are often neglected. This book is intended to correct this imbalance and draw out aspects and themes of Henry George’s writings which are generally passed over.

Possible themes for submission are:

  • The scope of government
  • Work and human fulfilment
  • Aristotle and Henry George
  • Aquinas and Henry George
  • The Physiocrats
  • Money and exchange
  • Law and freedom
  • Justice and the common good
  • Natural rights and duties
  • Environment and Henry George
  • Economics and human nature
  • The gifts of nature and the fruits of labour
  • George and the Enlightenment economists
  • George and modern philosophy
  • George and Christianity
  • Ethics and industry
  • George and natural law

These essay themes are only general suggestions and do not limit possible proposals. The aim of the book is to promote a wider understanding of Henry George among scholars of economics, political philosophy, and ethics as well as the general public.

No particular length is required but submissions should range between 3,000 to 8,000 words. All submissions must be previously unpublished. Anyone with a serious interest in Henry George is welcome to contribute. Editorial support will be given where necessary.

Publisher: it is planned to publish through the print on demand scheme at:
