PLANNING &
LAND VALUES
WITH
GREG MCGILL
Greg is a planning and development consultant. In his talk he will discuss the influence of town planning onland values together with related issues concerning finance, tax, globalisation and privatisation. He will describe the nature and extent of current UK planning policy, how planning applications are determined, and the various obligations that may attach to them. He will draw particular attention to questions surrounding ‘affordable housing’ issues. WHAT WOULD IT BE LIKE?
(IF WE GOT WHAT WE WANT)
WITH
TOMMAS GRAVES
Tommas will invite us to join him in speculating on what life might be like if our hopeless tax system were replaced by an arrangement whereby the community created value of locations were recovered by the state. Imagine - would the conditions in society, after a somewhat tricky transition be as we would we like? Would it have been worth the effort?

EDMUND BURKE HENRY GEORGE
AND
NATURAL LAW
WITH
IAN ALSTON
Both Edmund Burke and Henry George had a profound respect for what they understood to be Natural Law· but were they respecting and honoring the same thing? Likewise both Burke and George respected private property and regarded it as critical to the welfare of society. but were they championing the same thing? Again Burke and George were both concerned for the welfare of those who suffered from the effects of land enclosure and the industrial revolution - but were their responses compatible? So would Burke, had he known of George's ideas concerning the natural source of public revenue have been supportive? and if not what would have been his reservations? Ian Alston a long time admirer of both men will open up these questions for discussion during his talk which should provide material for an instl1lctive, stimulating, and enjoyable afternoon,
